Using MailApp.SendMail

I thought that you could only MailApp.SendMail api in Google Script with standard parameter for example:

MailApp.sendEmail(recipient, subject,body)

However, I just realize that you just need to use braces to use other advance parameters. For example to add cc, you can do the following.

function sendTestMail()
 {
   var toList = "strovek@gmail.com";

   var ccList = "strovek2@outlook.com"
   var subj = "Testing sendmail api";
   var bodyContent = "If you receive this mail, then the test is successful"
      + "<br><br>This is a second line";

    MailApp.sendEmail({to: toList, cc: ccList, subject: subj, htmlBody: bodyContent});

Limiting GApp search to a folder

Found this trick in a discussion on the topic. This is a feature lacking in the new search operator.

  1. Click on folder so you are only viewing within the folder you want to search
  2. The URL in your browser location bar will change to something like:
    https://drive.google.com/?ui=4&authuser=0#folders/0B6AzksONG.....
  3. Copy the text from the URL which comes after "folders/"
  4. Insert that text instead of THELONGFOLDERID into the following URL string:
    https://drive.google.com/?ui=4&authuser=0#advanced-search/q=dummy&view=2&parent=THELONGFOLDERID
  5. When you go to the URL you have just constructed, you can then use the search box to search inside that folder --- for convenience, I suggest you bookmark the URL if you do such searches often

In the example above, the url will become:

https://drive.google.com/?ui=4&authuser=0#advanced-search/q=dummy&view=2&parent=0B6AzksONG.....

I tested it using Chrome and it works and TheMathGuy used Firefox so it works for both browsers.

Note, however, that this is possible only if you phone has recently connected to internet (wifi) and has GPS enabled

Embedding pre filtered table in Google Site

If you have a Google spreadsheet with lots of data and you want to embed different results in different pages with a Google site, this is how you do it.

First create a Google sheet and share it with the following option (Anyone with link):

Next populate your Worksheet (for example):

Highlight all the data and Insert a Named Range and give it a name.  In this example, I called it SampData.

Insert a new sheet and put in the first cell your query.  In my case, I place the following:

=Query(SampData, "select * where B='Rent'")

One key thing to note that for the where clause, you need to use the cell column in this case is B instead of the field name.

Next insert a Gadget to the worksheet call table Gadget.

You will then be prompted for the range, specify the range in the worksheet that has the query results.  In my case, it is Sheet7!A:E.

You can create as many worksheets with different results as you want.

Next go to you Google site, create the page and add the table gadget there.    The easiest way, is to click insert Gadget and then add by url and paste the following:

http://www.google.com/ig/modules/table.xml

The gadget will require the data, the data is available by clicking on the gadget in the worksheet and select Get Query Data source url. Copy and paste the data source url to the gadget in the google site:

You can use the same gadget in the worksheet and change the range (using different sheets) to get different filtered results to display on your Google site.

How to set up automatic alert using Gmail and GCalendar

This is how you can set up an automatic alert that will send out email to a group on a fixed schedule. It is a two step process.

Step 1

Create a Calendar entry in your Google Calendar. Specify the time and also check the repeat, the specify the repeat frequency, daily, weekly, monthly etc.

Make sure to have add Email Reminder.

Step 2

From Step 1, you should receive an email from your calendar about 10 minutes (or what ever time you set before the actual time.

After receiving the first alert, create a filter from it.  The mail will be from calendar-notification@google.com.

So create your filter, as follow:

In the Has the words field, key in the words that match your calendar title. Then click Next Step.

Select Forward it to: and then enter the email you want to forward the alert to.  If you are using a corporate gmail account, you can use groups created by your company admin.  If you are using the free public gmail account, each filter can only be forwarded to one email account and also the recipient need to agree by either clicking on a link or to send you back the authorization code.
